At Sea Star Productions, we want every performer and every family to feel at home from the very first day, and part of feeling at home is knowing what to expect. Here's how casting and communication work across our productions and programs.
Casting & Auditions:
Casting is where a lot of the magic starts, so we want to be open about how it works.
Casting decisions are made by our directing and teaching staff, based on the needs of the show.
Every performer who auditions will be cast in a role. We build our shows with ensemble, feature, and lead opportunities so that every single performer has a place on our stage — because a production only comes to life when the whole company shows up together.
Cast lists are shared by email on the announced date. We ask families not to request early results — a little patience keeps the excitement alive for everyone.
We're always happy to offer general feedback on request, but we don't discuss the reasoning behind another performer's casting.
We ask parents to support the cast list as announced, and to help their performer step into every role — large or small — with enthusiasm. Every role matters, every part tells the story, and learning to embrace whatever role you're given with a full heart is one of the most valuable things we teach here.

Email is our primary channel for rehearsal updates, schedule changes, and important announcements — please check it regularly so nothing slips past you.
For day-of, time-sensitive matters like illness, late arrival, or early pick-up, please reach us by email.
Backstage and rehearsal spaces belong to our performers and staff — it's where the focus and the magic happen. We ask parents and guardians to settle into the designated waiting areas unless you're invited in.
You may reach out to us by email for any reason, however we have a firm policy, no emailing about casting. If your child is upset or unsure about their role days after the cast list has been sent we ask you speak with us about it in person, not by email.
What to Wear and bring to Sea Star Classes and Camps:
Comfortable clothing that’s easy to move, stretch, and dance in. No jeans, sweatpants are okay, leggings, athletic shorts or yoga pants are best. We suggest wearing layers so you can adjust as you warm up. No dangly jewellery.
Jazz shoes are preferred, but if you don't have those we suggest socks or bare feet over runners so you can properly stretch, point your toes and move.
